The earliest memory i have of my grandmother was when i was very young, in her kitchen, smelling fresh baked apple crisp made from the fresh apples off of her tree in her back yard. Today there is nothing left of that tree or even her house so i have decided to create a blog with recipes and other tips that i learned from my grandmother, my mother, and their cook books.
My favorite cookbooks are the older cookbooks, owned by "grandmothers". There is always something jotted in the sides, or pages folded over to mark favorite recipes. I will say i have an obsession in collecting these types of cook books. The best one that i have is from a local church. Small town Iowa has made it so in this cook book i know everyone, or someone who is related. This makes me feel like i can trust these recipes and notes on the side. The only thing is, when i was first learning to bake, recipes would call for a pinch of this, a smidge of that, so on so forth, so for Christmas one year my mother bought all of us girls measuring spoons that say, dash, smidge, and pinch. I can tell you that these do come in quite handy lol.
I won't lie, i can't bake very well. Either i put too much of this or not enough of that, or i forget its in the oven and it turns into a brick. Thankfully my mother bakes like a champion and uses my grandmothers skills so if i have an issue i just pick up the phone and text (yes text) or call her and she will help fix it to the best of her ability.
My sisters and I always look forward to whatever she has baked, weather it is cookies, cakes, brownies, or any sort of creation she comes up with. Birthdays are very interesting to go to, to see what she has come up with for my nieces and nephews. One year it was barney (with red cake) so it was pretty funny. Another year it was a beach party cake, with the center of it made out of jello. She has also baked mini cakes for each of their 1st birthdays.
I will go into more detail as the blog comes along. For now i'm going to gather some of my favorite recipes and load them onto here :)
